If you travel often, you may have TSA PreCheck to skip long TSA lines and move through security checkpoints smoothly.
Yet if you're flying out of Ohio's major airports, your TSA wait might not be that long to begin with since they have some of the shortest security lines in the United States.
Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus airports have some of the shortest TSA wait times in U.S.
Travel Bulletin collected data on the U.S.'s 50 busiest airports, including three in Ohio or serving the state. Those three airports have some of the shortest TSA wait times in the country.
Ranked by average wait times in minutes, these airports include:
- No. 10: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) - 5.9 minutes
- No. 13: John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) - 7.2 minutes
- No. 20: Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) - 9 minutes
With all 50 airports combined, the average passenger waits 10 minutes to get through airport security, meaning all three of the busiest airports that serve Ohio have shorter-than-average TSA wait times.
Cincinnati
also sees the fourth-fewest passengers per hour at TSA with an average of 638.9. John Glenn average 770.8 passengers per hour, and Cleveland sends 818.6 travelers through security each hour.
How to check TSA wait times at Ohio airports
If you're headed to an Ohio airport like John Glenn International or Rickenbacker in Columbus, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport or Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, you can monitor TSA wait times before you make your way to the airport.

How Travel Bulletin determined average TSA wait times at Ohio airports
According to the methodology, Travel Bulletin used TSA's own crowdsourced/historical wait time estimates from the MyTSA app wait time figures reported by travelers over the last eight weeks.
Passengers per hour figures come from TSA's FOIA Electronic Reading Room, averaging checkpoint volume by hour and airport across the most recent eight weeks of reports. Both datasets cover the same time frame, mid-June to mid-August, 2026.
Travel Bulletin examined the 50 busiest U.S.-based airports by average hourly passenger volume, calculated using TSA throughput data.
