Nearly 1.6 million white-shell and brown-shell eggs, including some sold at Kroger locations, have been recalled.
Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. issued the recall July 22 due to potential salmonella enteritidis contamination, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall report. As of July 22, Midwest Poultry Services was not aware of any illnesses related to the eggs.
The Indiana-based company identified the issue on its two Texas farms through "proactive environmental monitoring practices and root cause analysis," per the report. The company was not distributing fresh eggs from its Texas farms as of July 22.

What eggs are recalled?
The recalled white and brown cage-free eggs have an identifying code printed on the left or right sides of the carton in date-coding ink. Only the codes P-1950 or 0840962 with a Julian date between 157 and 184 are recalled, according to the report.
Were eggs sold at Kroger part of the recall?
Yes. Some of the recalled white and brown cage-free eggs were sold at Kroger, the Cincinnati-based grocer. However, Ohio is not one of the affected states. If you're worried you may be affected, it's always best to check the eggs to be sure.

Which states were the recalled eggs sold in? Is Ohio affected?
Luckily, for Ohioans and Cincinnatians alike, the recalled eggs were not sold in Kroger stores in Ohio.
They were, however, sold in Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, as well as in Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi, and at other smaller retail outlets, according to the recall report.
The eggs were also shipped to food service and retailers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, the report states.

While the chances of purchasing recalled eggs in Ohio are low, if you happen to come across a recalled lot, consumers are urged to avoid consuming the eggs and return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
