The jury in the trial of Rodney Hinton Jr. has informed the judge that it has reached a verdict.
Hinton, 40, is accused of killing a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy last year. Prosecutors say Hinton, fueled by rage after watching body camera video of his son being fatally shot by a Cincinnati police officer, drove into Deputy Larry Henderson on May 2, 2025.
Hinton's attorney said it was a suicide attempt and asked jurors to find him not guilty by reason of insanity. He said Hinton was aiming for a utility pole that Henderson was standing near.
The trial in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court began on Oct. 5 with jury selection. Closing arguments took place Oct. 20.
The jury of seven women and five men began deliberations sometime after 9 a.m. on Oct.
21.
If convicted of the most serious charge, aggravated murder, Hinton would face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury also was able to consider a lesser charge of reckless homicide.
