The Ohio theme parks are among the best in the United States, and between Cedar Point's 18 roller coasters and Kings Island's 15, there are plenty of rides to keep enthusiasts busy on National Roller Coaster Day on Aug. 16.

Originally patented as an "inclined railway," according to National Day Calendar, roller coasters have evolved to include terrifying drops, loops, tilt tracks, launch systems, floorless trains and more.
