NBC analyst and former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Cris Collinsworth was critical of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's interception with 21 seconds left in their loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL's season-opening game Sept. 9.
Maye threw to the end zone for Mack Hollins instead of setting up for what could have been a game-tying field goal.
"I can't believe that throw," Collinsworth said during the broadcast. "Wow. I mean there are certain things you just can't do or try when you have field-goal range and overtime in your grasp. And that is the play. Off his back foot, fading away and didn't get it out of bounds. Ouch."
Play-by-play partner Mike Tirico called Maye's throw a "terrible decision."
In 2025, Collinsworth commemorated
his 500th career broadcast during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday Night Football, and NBC brought back the "Collinsworth slide" for the occasion.
In 2024, Collinsworth celebrated during ESPN's ManningCast after predicting WR Ja'Marr Chase's game-winning catch and run for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the Bengals' NFL Week 14 win against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
