Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took a huge hit during the second quarter of the team's NFL Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Bengals' training staff looked at Burrow on the sideline after Burrow got steamrolled by multiple Dolphins while going after a fumble recovery.
Burrow did return to the field after an interception by the Bengals' Jordan Battle.
"He's as tough as they come at the quarterback spot," Fox analyst Mark Schlereth said of Burrow during the broadcast.
"We had our opportunities the last two weeks, but certainly this isn't Armageddon or anything," Burrow said after a Week 4 loss to Jacksonville. "We're still in a great spot and feel really good about our team."
With 53 seconds left in the 30-27
loss to Pittsburgh in Week 3, Burrow was sacked at the Pittsburgh 46-yard line by the Steelers' Derrick Harmon. Harmon beat Bengals offensive lineman Dalton Risner to get to Burrow.
Bengals tight ends Erick All Jr. and Tanner Hudson were adamant after the game that All recovered Burrow's fumble on that play.
Burrow was a full participant during the team's practice Sept. 23, going through his typical pre-practice routine and stretching with the team, which he did not do one week earlier as a limited participant in practice.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters before practice that Burrow was sore and the team would see how he comes through practice Wednesday as far as gauging his participation level in practice the rest of the week.
Burrow took several big hits during the team's NFL Week 2 win against the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium. He told reporters after the game he thought he played "incredibly average," but his first of two touchdown passes to Ja'Marr Chase was among the top highlights so far of the NFL season.
Burrow thanked the Texans' Will Anderson Jr. after the game, suggesting that one hit popped his rib back into place.
Burrow was limited during the week before the win in Houston because of a back injury. He was listed as questionable on the Bengals' injury report for that game, and they elevated veteran QB Josh Johnson from the practice squad because of Burrow's injury.
The Bengals are without receiver Andrei Iosivas for at least the next four games because of a thumb injury.
Burrow played in just eight games during the 2025 season after suffering a turf toe injury during a Week 2 win against Jacksonville.
One of the funnier moments of the third season of Netflix's "Quarterback" starring the Bengals' Joe Flacco featured Burrow telling teammates, including Flacco, that his buddies were poking fun at the 41-year-old signal-caller, who is entering his 19th NFL season.
Burrow told reporters June 17 that he feels "very similarly" about this Cincinnati team entering the 2026 NFL season to how he felt about the LSU Tigers before he led them to a national championship at the conclusion of the 2019 college football season.
During halftime of the Bengals' 2025 preseason game against the Washington Commanders, ESPN's Monday Night Football halftime crew of Scott Van Pelt, Ryan Clark, Jason Kelce and Marcus Spears agreed that watching Burrow get brought down twice by the Commanders' defense was cringeworthy.
Burrow finished the 2024 NFL season as the league leader in passing yards and touchdown passes.
In December 2024, Steelers linebacker TJ Watt appeared to twist Burrow's ankle as Watt tackled Burrow after batting the ball out of Burrow's hand during the second quarter of a Week 13 game at Paycor Stadium.
In November 2023, Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury during a loss against the Baltimore Ravens.
Burrow suffered a season-ending knee injury in November 2020 on a hit by current Bengals teammate Jonathan Allen against Washington.
