Hamilton and Clermont County residents can now apply for federal disaster relief in light of the damage caused by the severe weather this summer, officials said.
President Donald Trump approved Ohio Gov.
Mike DeWine's request for a Major Disaster Declaration after a series storms battered Greater Cincinnati and the state in August, according to an Oct. 2 news release. Federal assistance was also approved for Franklin, Licking, Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties.
Among other things, grants can be used for temporary housing, home repairs, personal property replacements, crisis counseling and legal services, according to the release.
On Sept. 2, DeWine submitted a request for the disaster relief declaration, which listed 23 Ohio counties that were hit hardest by the severe weather. The 16 remaining counties were still under review by the president as of Oct. 2, the release stated.
Over a 13-day period in August, federal officials found that 50 Ohio homes and business had been destroyed, 806 sustained major damage and 475 sustained minor damage, according to the release.
