A WKRC-TV Local 12 reporter is bidding farewell to the station.
Chelsea Sick is leaving after four years on air, she announced in a social media post. She said July 31 is her final day.
Sick, a Cincinnati native who joined Local 12 as a reporter in July 2022, said she "always hoped (she) would get the opportunity" to cover her hometown, but said, "The time has come for me to leave Local 12."
"This is a decision I made months ago as I prepared for my contract to end this month," she wrote.
"Over the last decade in television, I've had the privilege of covering some incredible moments, from winning Bengals seasons, air shows, concerts, and Opening Day celebrations to some of our community's darkest days, including mass shootings, tornadoes, tragic
car crashes, and devastating house fires. Those stories were never 'just stories' to me. I left each scene carrying the weight of what the people involved were going through, and I still think about many of those families every day," she wrote.
Although Sick said she isn't sure what's next for her, she will be staying in Cincinnati because "this is where we want to raise our family."
"I hope to continue telling stories in this community, just in a different way," she wrote. "Don't go anywhere! I'll be sure to share what comes next. Until then, I'm going to soak up some extra time with my daughter."
Sick, a Milford High School grad, graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in news and information journalism, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before joining WKRC-TV, she served as a reporter at WKEF/WRGT-TV in Dayton.
Sick is among the growing list of reporters to announce their departure or changes from the station.
Former Local 12 reporter Tyler Madden left in June. Cassy Arsenault announced her departure July 15. Then, Marella Porter revealed she would be transitioning from a weekend anchor to weekdays.
Most recently, longtime investigative reporter Duane Pohlman shared on July 27 that he would be leaving Cincinnati for Louisville. However, he will make the trek for his Queen City newcasts.
While the changes are likely due to expiring contracts, like Sick, Local 12 is going through changes as it ended its weekend morning newscast and laid off several employees on July 11.
