The teen driver who was behind the wheel when 16-year-old Mason Young died falling from a moving vehicle last month turned himself into police on Sept. 10.
The driver, who has not been named, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, which are both felonies, according to a news release from the Trenton Police Department.
After the Aug. 14 crash, police said Mason was "riding on top of a moving vehicle" near the intersection of Dartmouth Street and Brampton Place in Trenton around 10:30 p.m.
After further investigation, investigators reported Mason and another juvenile had been riding on the trunk of the vehicle and both had fallen off. The surviving juvenile suffered serious injuries, police said.
Young was pronounced
dead after being flown to the Miami Valley Hospital, officials said. Young was a junior at Edgewood City Schools and played varsity soccer.
The teen driver turned himself in to police accompanied by his parents and a lawyer, according to the news release. The driver was not held in detention and was returned to his parents, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Butler County Juvenile Court later in the month.
