An East Price Hill man was arrested after police say he fired off a shotgun, dragged a woman into his home and caused a SWAT standoff on Sunday.
The 45-year-old is charged with misdemeanor inducing panic and obstructing official business after the high-profile standoff across the street from the Kroger on Warsaw Avenue, according to court documents.
Cincinnati police were called around 7 p.m. Aug. 2 after a 911 caller said the man fired off multiple rounds with a sawed-off shotgun outside his home and dragged a woman inside.
Officers found the man, placed him at gunpoint and told him he had active warrants for his arrest. He then ran into his home and shut the door.
Several minutes later, the man ran into the backyard and was confronted by officers
again, so he ran into his basement. He eventually came out and surrendered, according to arrest documents.
The SWAT team was deployed during the standoff, which lasted more than a half an hour. All residents were evacuated from the home and nearby roads were closed, including those going into and out of the Kroger grocery store.
The man was wanted for a similar incident weeks earlier, when police say he fired off several rounds at a man outside his home and threatened to kill him.
Officers recovered a sawed-off shotgun from the home, along with a shotgun shell.
Police asked for a high bond, saying the man has demonstrated he is a flight risk, will flee and disobey police and "will only surrender to authorities when there is no other option," according to arrest documents.
The man remains in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $1,000 bond.
