The Butler County Sheriff's Office recovered a body from the Great Miami River Aug. 20, according to a news release.
The sheriff's office communications center got a 911 call at about 11:42 a.m. for a report of what the caller said appeared to be a body near the dam in Hamilton.
The Emergency Response Services Team responded, recovering the body from the river.
“Never underestimate the power of moving water," Sheriff Richard K. Jones said. "The river may look calm on the surface, but strong currents and undertows can quickly pull a person under and make it extremely difficult to recover. If you are going to be in or around the river, always wear a properly fitted life jacket. It can save your life.”
The body is now at the Butler County Coroner's
Office. The release said the coroner will release their identity at the "appropriate time."
