The owner of Batsakes Hat Shop, one of downtown Cincinnati’s longest-running retail businesses, has been nominated to receive one of the City of Cincinnati’s highest honors.
Honorary street naming would honor Batsakes' owner
City Council is scheduled to vote Sept. 23 on an emergency ordinance that would give the intersection of Sixth and Vine streets the honorary secondary name “Gus Miller Way.”
The designation would honor Gus Miller for his contributions to the Cincinnati community and downtown business district through Batsakes Hat Shop.
The proposed street naming comes as the retailer nears the end of its run in downtown Cincinnati, marking the close of a business that has long been part of the city’s street-level retail landscape.
Batsakes Hat Shop will close Sept. 30
Batsakes Hat Shop, located at 197 E. Sixth St., will permanently
close Sept. 30, ending a decades-long presence in the city’s central business district.
The family-owned store has been a fixture for generations of customers seeking hats and specialty headwear.
