Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities will have an opportunity to make social and romantic connections during a speed-dating event at The Point/Arc of Northern Kentucky in Covington on Aug. 28.
The free event is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zembrodt Education Center, 104 W. Pike St., according to a community announcement.
Organizers said the event is designed for people 38 and older and will feature a series of brief conversations that allow participants to meet multiple potential partners in a structured setting. Afterward, attendees can indicate who they would like to see again, and organizers will exchange contact information when interest is mutual.
“At The Point/Arc of Northern Kentucky, we believe that meaningful relationships
are a fundamental part of a full and inclusive life," Event coordinator Lexi Martini said.
Building connections
Martini said people with intellectual and developmental disabilities often have limited opportunities to build social and romantic relationships in supportive environments.
“We’re trying to reach an older audience,” Martini continued, “by creating a space that builds confidence, strengthens communication skills, and allows genuine connections to form.”
Organizers expect nearly 30 participants. Interest has been high, according to the announcement.
The Point/Arc said structured speed-dating events specifically tailored for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities remain uncommon, particularly in Kentucky.
