Camp Washington Chili is back in business after a drunk driver crashed a vehicle into the building on Tuesday.
The iconic Cincinnati chili parlor resumed business at 9 a.m. Sept. 2, according to a Facebook post from the restaurant. Camp Washington Chili thanked contractors, building inspectors, the local health department, first responders, Duke Energy and its staff for helping complete repairs, inspections and safety checks on an accelerated timeline.
The restaurant also expressed gratitude to the Cincinnati community for its support after Tuesday's crash and said it was thankful no one was injured.
"Well, that was fast," the post reads. "The coneys, 3-Ways, double deckers, and all your Cincinnati favorites will be waiting."
According to The Enquirer's
media partner, Fox 19, a drunk driver crashed into the building early Tuesday and was arrested on an OVI charge. No injuries were reported.
Camp Washington Chili owner Maria Papakirk initially said the restaurant would be closed “for a few days” for inspections and repairs. Instead, crews finished the work in time for the restaurant to reopen the following morning.
Camp Washington Chili has served customers from the corner of Colerain Avenue and Hopple Street since 1940. Although the current building replaced the original restaurant in 2000, Fox 19 reported that the business had never been forced to close "due to an accident of this nature."
