A Greater Cincinnati reporter is still in disbelief at how viral his on-air blooper has gone after it was featured on late-night television.
On Aug. 6, Channel 9 (WCPO) traffic anchor and meteorologist KJ Jacobs shared a traffic update for Interstate 71 at Gilbert Avenue in Cincinnati, where he unexpectedly saw a crash happen on the live feed.
"Oh sh-" Jacobs caught himself after seeing the collision. "Oh, I'm so sorry," he immediately added. "Literally just watched a crash happen in real-time."
"And I almost said something inappropriate," he said with a small chuckle.
Jacobs posted the video to his Instagram page, where it went viral, garnering 10.6 million views and more than 680,000 likes.
The hilarious moment was featured in the Aug. 9 episode
of "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver."
"There was a fender-bender on I-71 in Cincinnati, which isn't in itself noteworthy, but the way it got reported is pretty great," Oliver said before playing the clip of Jacobs.
Oliver also added that the expletive was a "completely appropriate response to seeing a car crash happen."
"An inappropriate one would've been if you'd said, 'Nice!' or 'Eh, that one didn't do it for me,' or a long, soft moan. But just blurting out, 's---'? That's called being a human being," Oliver said.
Jacobs shared the "Last Week Tonight" clip on his Instagram Aug. 10, saying he's "Still incredibly blown away by the reaction to this moment. And now the laughs continue on 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver!' #bloopers. Sounds like we all agree… it was the appropriate thing to say."
