The next relief pitching appearance Caleb Ferguson makes will be in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform.

That's because the Cincinnati Reds traded Ferguson to the Cardinals for $250,000 in international bonus space. The Reds also traded Nathaniel Lowe to the Cleveland Guardians ahead of the MLB trade deadline on Monday, Aug. 3.

The start of Ferguson's season was delayed by a right oblique strain, which cost him about two months. As a result, Ferguson had just 24 appearances as of July 30. Conversely, Ferguson (1-0, 3.47 ERA) only had 23 1/3 innings on his left arm as the deadline approached.

Ferguson was acquired by Cincinnati during its offseason rebuild of the bullpen. In December 2025, he signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract to join the club.
