The FBI is investigating a hack that schemed a local nonprofit out of about $60,000.
Neighborhood Investment Partners, a nonprofit community development organization that addresses affordable housing, sent a wire transfer payment to a vendor in mid-September.
That payment was hacked and the money was stolen, the nonprofit said in a news release issued Sept. 24.
"NIP is working with federal authorities, including the FBI and our local bank, to recover the stolen funds," the news release states.
The organization declined to release more information due to the ongoing investigation.
Neighborhood Investment Partners collaborates closely with the city of Covington to create, upgrade and manage affordable housing projects.
Some of its recent projects include
a 15-home project in Covington's Eastside neighborhood,which will be sold to income-qualified households that earn less than 80% of the area median income, and a proposed 60 income-based units for seniors at at 609 Patton St.
