Who said you have to travel to New York City to find a good bagel?
The Bagelry, a family-owned restaurant with locations in Over-the-Rhine and Oakley, is opening a third location in Montgomery on Sept. 25, according to an Instagram post. The Bagelry will celebrate the grand opening of its new eatery, located at 11013 Montgomery Road, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.
According to its website, The Bagelry, a Findlay Kitchen graduate, was founded in 2017 by Richard Huff, his brother Kyle Jones and sister-in-law Colleen Hert. Huff told The Enquirer in 2018 that his appreciation for bagels began in Louisville, where he and his wife regularly visited a bagel shop called Nancy's.
"Looking back, I think we both developed an emotional attachment to bagels
because of the memories we made talking, laughing and growing together while eating bagels over the years,” he said.
After opening its first brick-and-mortar location at 1401 Walnut St. in Over-the-Rhine, the trio expanded to Oakley, opening a second restaurant, at 3212 Madison Road, in December 2022.
The owners' goal, per the website, is to "serve the perfect bagel: crispy exterior, delightfully chewy interior, and well-developed flavor." They achieve this by making the bagels in-house. The bagels are given extra time to develop through an overnight cold rise and are then kettle-boiled and baked fresh daily.
The menu includes bagels in a variety of flavors, along with housemade cream cheeses and spreads, local meats such as Glier's goetta, fresh-cracked egg sandwiches, lox sandwiches, pizza bagels, smoked turkey clubs, BLTs and more.
