Ohio wants schools to do a better job educating students. However, the teachers can’t teach students who aren’t there.

Cincinnati Public Schools has a horrible absence rate. Approximately 41% of students miss 17 or more days a year. You can’t blame the teachers or the schools. Blame the parents.

Make a parent accompany their children to school and pick them up when school's over if there is no improvement after an adequate number of warnings. If that fails, make parents accompany their children throughout the school day. If that doesn’t work, press criminal charges against them, put them in jail, and send their children to live with relatives, family friends, or into foster

care or juvenile detention.

Charter schools should be required to follow the same rules. Both public schools and charter schools should be required to test the students in the same manner, and the test results should be public.

This level of absence is intolerable. We pay a price now, and we'll pay a price in the future when they are on welfare or in prison.
