Just over 90 employees are set to be laid off as part of a Middletown plant closure.
Most employees will be let go from Packaging Corporation of America's Baltimore Street plant on Dec. 1, according to a state filing. The Middletown location is a corrugated manufacturing facility, according to a 2004 company report.
"This was a difficult business decision," wrote Mark Romaniuk, the company's attorney in the Oct. 1 filing. "It is in no way a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our valued employees."
Packaging Corporation of America has nine other locations across Ohio, according to its website. It specializes in containerboard delivery and packaging solutions across the United States.
The announce comes two months after JD Vance lamented
the loss of American manufacturing jobs from a steel plant in Middletown. During a rally speech, he said he remembered when classmates at Middletown High School would come to school and say their fathers had lost their jobs.
The Enquirer reached out to Packaging Corporation of America for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
