Hamilton West Side still has a chance to leave Williamsport, Pa. on a high note.
Ohio plays Japan in the Little League World Series Consolation Third Place Game on Sunday, Aug. 30. The Third Place Game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. first pitch and will air live on ESPN.
Both Ohio and Japan arrive to the Consolation Game after falling short in revenge games. Ohio faced Nevada again in the U.S. Championship, but Nevada came away with a 12-2 win in five innings. Japan was up against Curaçao in the International Final, but the Caribbean island bested the Asian archipelago with a 4-0 shutout.
Hamilton reached the U.S. Finals thanks to an incredible run through the Elimination Bracket. A first-round loss to Nevada meant Ohio had to win five elimination
games in a row, but West Side more than rose to the challenge.
A 10-0 run-rule victory over New England set the tone, then Ohio posted a 6-2 victory over Texas and a 5-2 victory over New Jersey. West Side kept the bats hot in an 11-2 victory over Alabama and capped the streak with a 7-1 victory over Iowa in the Elimination Bracket Finals. West Side's 44 runs scored leading up to the U.S. Finals made it the highest-scoring offense in the tournament.
Japan faced nearly identical circumstances on the international side of the bracket. An opening loss to eventual champs Curaçao meant Japan needed five consecutive wins. The team from Tokyo defeated the Caribbean Region 10-1, Europe-Africa 3-2, Mexico 3-1, Canada 7-3, and Latin America 4-1.
