Republicans will gather in Dallas on Sept. 9 for a first-of-its-kind "Midterm Convention," but it's unclear how many members of Greater Cincinnati's Republican congressional delegation will attend.
The convention comes a few months ahead of the midterm elections in November, at a time when two in five likely voters say they approve of President Donald Trump and Republicans hope to hold their slight majorities in the U.S. Congress. Trump organized the convention, though Republican strategists told USA TODAY they questioned how much it will help candidates in tight races.
Who''s going?
Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno and Ohio's 8th Congressional District Rep. Warren Davidson, who represents part of Hamilton and Butler counties, both plan to attend, spokespeople told
The Enquirer.
Ohio Sen. Jon Husted, in a close race against former Sen. Sherrod Brown, will also be attending, according to a release from the Republican National Committee.
Middletown native and Cincinnati resident Vice President JD Vance, preparing for a likely 2028 run, will make a keynote address the first night of the convention around 9 p.m. on Sept. 9.
Who hasn't said?
The Enquirer reached out to all eight Republican members of the Greater Cincinnati Congressional delegation.
Spokespeople for Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, Ohio Rep. Dave Taylor and Ohio Rep. Mike Turner did not respond to questions about their attendance.
A spokesperson for Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell said she did not have "any scheduling announcements" in response to The Enquirer asking if McConnell plans to attend or speak. The senator was discharged from a rehabilitation center in early August after being hospitalized due to a fall.
