Additional storms and showers are expected to move across the area Monday.
Just before 6 a.m., a line of strong thunderstorms was moving east at 35 mph, according to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Wind gusts up to 40 mph and very heavy rain were expected.
A flood watch is in effect for the entire region through noon Sept. 21 as locally heavy rain could be falling on already saturated ground.

"Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Visibility will be poor and hydroplaning
is possible," according to the statement.
The system was expected to weaken as the morning progressed.
More showers will occur Tuesday night into Wednesday, with greater chances being in the eastern portion of the forecast region.
A cooler airmass will settle across the region, sending highs to the low to mid 70s through the week.
