Sept. 8 was a notable day for Greater Cincinnati girls volleyball. Seton won its 50th consecutive match and Mason won its 100th consecutive Greater Miami Conference match.
Those milestones spurred the question, "What are the longest winning streaks by Greater Cincinnati girls volleyball teams?"
Through extensive research and help from athletic directors at various schools, The Enquirer has compiled some of the longest winning streaks in the area's rich history. By the numbers, these feats recognize overall consecutive wins, as well as a few within league play.
Let's reminisce about some impressive winning streaks from notable Cincinnati volleyball programs throughout the years.
152 – Wyoming dominated the Cincinnati Hills League from 2010 to 2022.
After losing their final league contest in 2009, the Cowgirls didn't lose to another CHL opponent until Oct. 13, 2020. After Taylor snapped one of the longest winning streaks in conference history (across any sport), Wyoming rattled off another 30 league wins in a row. Speaking of the Yellowjackets, they are currently on a 33-match league winning streak. They most recently beat Wyoming, which had started the 2026 season 8-0.
102 – According to the Ohio High School Athletic Association record book, Seton owns the second-longest winning streak in state history. During the Saints' run to seven straight state tournaments, they went undefeated from the midpoint of the 1984 season until the 1987 state semifinals, where they fell to Reynoldsburg. Led by coach Mary Jett, all-city stars Tracey Thompson, Barb Mannix, Judy Robben and Heidi Hafner, the streak delivered the first three of Seton's eight state titles. It also spawned an 80-match regular-season winning streak that lasted until 1988 and a school-record 55 consecutive home wins.
101 – The Mason Comets haven't lost a GMC match in almost exactly 11 years, falling to Lakota East on Sept. 15, 2015. They have a 182-71 cumulative record since that day and advanced to the regional final in 2024 and 2025. No matter the roster turnover or final record, Mason has always managed to go undefeated in league play.
73 – The Williamsburg Wildcats spent six straight years as the queens of the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference-National Division. They went undefeated in league play from Sept. 30, 2014, to Sept. 7, 2021. During that stretch, the Wildcats finished with at least 20 wins and just two losses four times, and advanced to the DIII district final each year from 2016 to 2020.
59 – That's how many consecutive Ninth Region contests the Notre Dame Academy Pandas won from Aug. 16, 2022, to Aug. 20, 2026. The first year of the streak resulted in the Pandas' 10th state championship and they were the state runner-up in 2023 and 2025. St. Henry was the only team to compete with the Pandas during that time, taking six sets from Notre Dame. The Crusaders bookended the streak with a 2021 regional championship and a reverse sweep in Park Hills on Sept. 1, 2026.
56 – Ever since Ursuline became one of the first three state champions in 1975, each Girls Greater Catholic League team has experienced periods of invincibility. After falling in the 2008 state semifinals, the Lions embarked on what is currently the second-longest winning streak in city history. In three years, they went 84-2 but only won one state championship; the two losses came in the state semifinals in 2008 and 2010. From October 2007 to September 2011, Ursuline also won 32 straight GGCL contests.
52 – Seton currently owns the longest active winning streak in the state and fourth longest in the country. During a streak that spans nearly two years, the Saints have dropped just six sets, three of which have come against Mason. A total of 10 players from the 2024 and 2025 state championship teams are currently playing in college, and six players on the current roster are committed to play at the next level.
36 – The Kings Knights won their final 25 games in 2023, becoming the first DI public school from Cincinnati to win a state championship since Lakota in 1994. That team was stacked with talent, as five of the six seniors are playing in college. The Knights then won 11 straight matches to open the 2024 season. During the dominant run, they won 44 straight Eastern Cincinnati Conference matches from Aug. 30, 2022, to Sept. 17, 2024.
29 – Okay, so this isn't an official number as Seton doesn't have match-by-match results from 1997 (thanks to athletic director Cindy Busse for checking), but it is a reminder of the Saints' undefeated state title team from 1996. Sue Silbernagel led them to that title, the fifth in school history, and guided them back to the 1997 state semifinals. Seton ended the '97 season with a 25-3 record, so it's not inconceivable that its streak in the late '90s could have reached 35 or 40 wins in a row.
27 – Both of Fenwick's state titles have been part of extended winning streaks. In 2019, a deep senior class led by Bella DeSalvo, Julia Gardon, Elizabeth Hoerlein and Grace Maziar guided the Falcons to a 25-match winning streak to end the season as they beat Sparta Highland in the state championship. Under coach Yoon Ha, now at Turpin, Fenwick had a 24-match winning streak in 2010 and 2011, during which they won the 2010 DIII state championship. At 11-0, the Falcons are currently one of seven undefeated teams in Greater Cincinnati. Might they be the school's first undefeated state champion and set a new record for the longest winning streak in the process?
24 – Before Jeni Case led Ursuline Academy to dynasty status in the late 2000s and 2010s, Amie Meyer coached the Lions to the 2002 state championship, ending the season with a 17-match winning streak. The Lions would return to the state championship in 2003, but their winning streak survived just seven matches into that season.
Honorable mention – The Madeira Amazons became the third Cincinnati school, and first public school, to bring home a state title when they claimed the 1978 Class AA title. They also reached the 1979 state semifinals behind coach Nadine Wilson and players Kelly Wilson, Melinda Crane, Missy Brenner, Pam Mack and Kim Miller. While not much is know about the Amazon's longest winning streak during those years, they did combine for a 49-3 record.
