Two people accused of stealing a dozen luxury watches in a smash-and-grab heist at the Kenwood Towne Centre arrived in a stolen car from out of state, later leading authorities on a chase through Warren County, according to police records.
Jordan Grimes, 25, and a 17-year-old boy are each charged in connection with the theft at the Watches of Switzerland store, looting $123,200 worth of timepieces, the records show.
Grimes was indicted in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court July 28 on charges including theft, vandalism and tampering with evidence. The teen is also facing charges in Hamilton County Juvenile Court.
The Enquirer does not name juveniles charged with crimes unless a case is transferred
to adult court.
The records state Grimes is from Georgia, while the teen resides in Detroit. They entered the store on July 21, police said, and used sledgehammers to break the glass protecting the watches.
The pair grabbed the watches and ran through a nearby Nordstrom store before exiting the mall, according to the records.
Officers called to the mall were unable to locate the pair but identified the vehicle they were driving, which had been reported stolen in Michigan and spotted by Flock cameras in Warren County after the theft.
Grimes and the teen were pursued on the road by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Mason police before they crashed in Lebanon and were chased on foot, the records state. They were taken into custody and questioned at the Mason Police Department.
Police recovered the clothes and tools used in the heist from the pair's vehicle, according to an arrest report.
Grimes' attorney did not respond to a phone call and email from The Enquirer at the time of this report.
Jail and court records show Grimes is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center and is scheduled to appear for an arraignment on Aug. 7.
