With Vice President JD Vance scheduled to speak in Middletown on Friday, expect road closures around East Walnut Hills this weekend.
Several roads near Vance's East Walnut Hills home will be closed starting the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 20, through the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 23, according to a city news release.
Vance will speak at the Cleveland-Cliffs steel plant in Middletown, Ohio, on Aug. 21. He'll be joined by Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Ohio officials.
This weekend, the following road and sidewalk closures will be in place:
- William Howard Taft Road between 1905 William Howard Taft Road and East McMillan Street.
- Collins Avenue between William Howard Taft Road and the underside of the US Route 50/Columbia Parkway overpass.
- Taft Road Lane and Heatherhill Lane.
- Westbound Riverside Drive between Leblond Recreation Center and Collins Avenue (due to ongoing construction).
Drivers are encouraged to use Torrence Parkway, Madison Road, and Woodburn Avenue as a detour while the closures are in place.
Residents who live within the area where roads are closed will be able to access their
neighborhood through one of three marked security checkpoints. Checkpoints will be located at:
- William Howard Taft Road and Torrence Parkway
- William Howard Taft Road and East McMillan Street
- For pedestrians: Collins and Gladstone avenues
Residents should expect to encounter police at these checkpoints and should factor in extra time as a result of these security measures, city officials said in the release.
