Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a possibility for flooding, damaging winds and brief tornados loom over multiple Cincinnati events this weekend.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms will move into Greater Cincinnati overnight July 31 and through the morning, with the more concerning weather coming into the area during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday, Aug. 1, according to the National Weather Service
.Widespread showers and a thunderstorm are expected Sunday, Aug. 2. There is also a threat for short-lived tornados in southwest Ohio, eastern Indiana, and Northern Kentucky. Flooding could return to the same areas Saturday and Sunday.
Several events are taking place around Cincinnati this weekend, including Chris Stapleton's Paycor Stadium
concert, Glier's Goettafest, Ohio River Paddlefest, a three-game Reds-Pirates series, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.'s 85th Grand Conclave, among others. The inclement weather may affect some of the events.
WestSide Market has already canceled its Aug. 1 market ahead of the storms, according to an Instagram post. Florence canceled its Aug. 1 Crafts and Classics Festival.
Saturday, Sunday rain timeline
Rain is forecast to start at 4 a.m. at a 10 to 20%. That chance will continue through 6 a.m., and by 7 a.m., that chance will jump to 30 to 50%. That chance of rain will continue through noon.
By 1 p.m., there will be a 60 to 70% chance of rain. That chance continues until 3 p.m., when it jumps to 80 to 100%. The chance of rain drops to about 30 to 50% at 11 p.m. and will stay that way through 2 a.m. Sunday.
Rain will resume at 7 a.m. at about a 30 to 50% chance and continue through 2 p.m., when it jumps to a 80 to 100% chance through 5 p.m.
