Second lady Usha Vance is giving a peek into her new family.
Usha Vance, who welcomed her fourth child with Vice President JD Vance last week, on Friday, July 24, dropped pictures of the new family of six and a close-up shot of the baby, a boy whom the couple named Alec Neel Vance. The occasion makes Vance the first vice president in over 150 years to welcome a child while in office.
The second lady was dressed head to toe in white, as was the baby. The vice president, meanwhile, donned a cream white shirt, blue pants and a grey jacket.
"Thank you for all the good wishes as we settle into life as a family of six. 🩵," the caption on X read. "Meet Alec — and enjoy these attempts at taking a decent family photo with four kids!"
Usha Vance gave birth
on July 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
"We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning," the Vance family said in a statement on social media. "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother."
The Vances were already parents to three young children: Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4.
The next day, on July 20, President Donald Trump, while congratulating the couple, shared a photo of the newborn on Truth Social, writing: "Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family."
Second lady on having another baby
Usha Vance, in a wide-ranging new interview with Moms for America published on June 30, opened up about her decision to have a fourth child.
"I had always wanted to have two kids, and then I thought when I had the second child, I just loved it so much that I wanted to have a third and that just seemed so clear," Usha Vance said. "But then we had our third child, and it was in the middle of JD's Senate campaign, and then of course our life has been just epic chaos since then."
Usha Vance added that another child was "really not on my bingo card at first," but her husband "always really wanted to have another child."
"We talked about it a lot," Usha Vance said. "And I started to feel this sense of openness to it. And I thought, well, if I'm feeling openness, I should just see whether it happens or not. Give myself a window of possibility."
She also said she knew she'd be content either way but is "really thrilled" about how everything turned out.
The vice president, meanwhile, suggested in his new memoir, "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith," that his wife changed her mind about having more children after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last September.
"For years I had asked Usha to have another baby, and for years she had told me she was done – especially now that public service had elevated us into the national spotlight," he wrote. "But something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy."
