Roll the cameras! Another Hollywood movie is filming in Greater Cincinnati.
"Jonah," a film adaptation of Rachel Bonds' off-Broadway play, received more than $1 million in Ohio tax credits to film in Cincinnati, according to a news release.
The film, which has a total budget of $3,943,649, follows a woman named Ana, played by Greta Lee, who has a surge of memories that forces her to revisit the "defining relationships of her life" and "confront the truth behind the stories" she has told herself over two decades, according to Deadline and IMDb.
Along with the "Past Lives" actress, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich, known for roles in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," "Weapons," "Cocaine Bear" and "Oppenheimer," and Cooper Hoffman, who appeared in "Licorice
Pizza" and "I Want Your Sex," per the tax credit application. Deadline adds that film will feature Lee's "Late Fame" co-star Edmund Donovan and Hagan Oliveras, who starred in the Off-Broadway show.
Oscar-nominated producer Michael Heimler, Black Bear Pictures president of productions and operations, applied for the film's tax credit in July. The Enquirer obtained the tax credit application from the Ohio Department of Development, which shows production is taking place in Cincinnati through Oct. 9. Preproduction began July 27, and 21 days were scheduled for filming.
Although the application does not identify specific filming locations, it says all production is expected to take place in Ohio, primarily in Hamilton County. Residents posting on Reddit have reported seeing film crewsin Fairfax and Madisonville. Individuals have also reportedly seen film trailers and equipment in the parking lot of the former St. Margaret of Cortona Church on Murray Road in Fairfax.
D. Lynn Meyers, a Cincinnati casting director, has also been posting casting calls for "Jonah" on Facebook.
Tony Award winner Danya Taymor, who directed the stage production, will make her feature directorial debut with the film adaptation.
