A Cincinnati assistant principal faces additional sexual battery charges after a second high school student came forward, police said.
Steven Barton, 43, was indicted on five felony counts of sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of grooming on Sept. 4, court records show. He was booked into the Hamilton County Justice center Aug. 28 on one felony count of sexual battery after security camera footage showed him inappropriately touching a 16-year-old with his hand, according to court records.
Barton has worked as Aiken New Tech High School's assistant principal in College Hill since at least 2024, according to Ohio licensing records.
The additional charges stem from a second Aiken New Tech High School student contacting Cincinnati police, according
to a department spokesperson. When Barton first appeared in court on Aug. 28, a detective said it was possible there were more victims.
Barton has been "removed from duty and will have no contact with students while the criminal and district investigations are underway," according to an Aug. 28 statement from Cincinnati Public Schools.
He was still listed online as the College Hill school's assistant principal as of Sept. 5.
Barton posted his bond of $75,000 after his first court appearance. He is expected to return to court on Aug. 8.
