FC Cincinnati's ownership group recently engaged with the National Women's Soccer League's Racing Louisville team about a potential sale and relocation from Louisville to Cincinnati, according to a report Sept. 10 from ESPN's Jeff Kassouf.
FC Cincinnati also inquired about purchasing the NWSL team in recent years, per Kassouf, but on each occasion sources cited personal relationships between ownership groups as an obstacle to a potential sale.
In May, Kassouf reported that NWSL team Racing Louisville FC's ownership group, Soccer Holdings, LLC, had started to explore selling a stake in the team.
"FC Cincinnati's ownership and leadership remain deeply committed to the continued growth of women's soccer and will aggressively explore opportunities
to expand our involvement," the club said in a statement to ESPN. "Cincinnati has proven to be a passionate soccer city, and we are excited by the possibilities to further support the women's game in our community. While there is nothing specific to comment on today, our commitment to advancing the sport remains strong."
In 2024, FC Cincinnati unsuccessfully bid for a 2026 NWSL expansion team with a group including Caitlin Clark.
At that time, Cincinnati was one of the final three cities considered for NWSL expansion. Denver won the bid over Cincinnati and Cleveland.
Columbus landed an NWSL team for 2028.
