Some roads surrounding Kroger headquarters are blocked in downtown Cincinnati on Wednesday morning as animal rights activists mount a protest.
According to advocacy organization Animal Equality, approximately 60 activists are participating in a demonstration Sept. 23 outside the company's headquarters on Vine Street to urge the grocery chain to honor what they say its commitment to transition to cage-free eggs.
Police tape is up at Vine and Court streets and a reporter saw about 20 Cincinnati police officers in the area, including Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie.
Some of the protestors were chained to the building. Police used bolt cutters to remove chains and at least two were placed in handcuffs and a third was carried away. Some of the protestors were laying
down.
Cincinnati Fire Department personnel with saws were also present.
