Animal lovers, rescue groups and families with pets will gather at Monroe Community Park later this month for PAWS-A-PALOOZA, a fundraiser benefiting homeless dogs and cats cared for by PAWS Adoption Center.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 29 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 500 S. Main St. in Monroe, according to a community announcement.
PAWS-A-PALOOZA is designed to bring together pet owners, local businesses, rescue organizations and community members while raising money to support animal care and adoption services at the shelter.
Attendees can watch Wiener Dog Races, see a police K-9 demonstration and participate in contests for pets and their owners. Scheduled competitions include a Best Costume Contest for dogs and a Pet & Owner Look-Alike Contest.
Visitors also will be able to browse vendors offering crafts and pet-related products, meet rescue organizations and animal-care professionals and interact with animals available for adoption.
Food vendors Chester’s Pizza and Jolly Treats are expected to serve food and treats during the event.

Organizers encourage people to bring well-behaved pets on leashes to participate in the activities.
In addition to attending the event, community members can support the organization through volunteer opportunities, sponsorships and purchases from participating vendors.
