La Salle High School is mourning the death of 2021 graduate Jaymar Hargrove-Mundy, who was a football star for the Lancers.
Mundy’s cause of death is unknown. He was a defensive back for the football team, helping the team win a Division II state championship in 2019 and reach the state semifinals in 2020, his senior year. He played for OhioUniversity his final season in 2025.
La Salle posted a tribute to him Sept. 23 on its X account for its football program, saying “To our Champion. To our Teammate. To our Friend. To our Brother. Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Jaymar Mundy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, teammates and all who loved him. Forever a Lancer. Forever our Brother. Rest in Peace, Jaymar.”
In a
text message to the Enquirer, La Salle head coach Pat McLaughlin said, "Jaymar is a fine young man and will be remembered as our LaSallian brother. He was a bright light, always smiling, engeretic, upbeat and positive. Heaven gained an angel."
De’Angelo Smith, Ohio University’s cornerbacks coach and director of player development, posted a picture of him with Mundy on his Instagram Stories. He also shared a highlight reel of Mundy’s life and career that has been posted on another Instagram account. The reel includes pictures and video from both Ohio University and La Salle.
On Mundy’s Instagram account, people who knew him have been posting comments in tribute to him on his most recent posts.
Mundy was a captain at La Salle, earning second-team all-state honors as a senior and third-team as a junior. In 2020, he was the Greater Catholic League-South defensive back of the year after posting 45 tackles, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions. In the Lancers’ state championship year of 2019, he had 50 tackles, 17 pass breakups and six interceptions.
In 2019, Mundy had a 27-yard fumble return touchdown in La Salle's first-round playoff victory Little Miami and intercepted a pass in the regional final against Harrison. He was part of a secondary that all signed with Division I schools.
Mundy signed with Miami University in 2020. After one season there, he played two seasons with Hutchinson Community College, playing 19 games for his team. He transferred to Western Kentucky University in 2024 and Ohio in 2025, where he played in five games that season.
