Center-back defender Matt Miazga is signing with NYCFC, according to multiple reports Sept. 18.
Miazga departed FC Cincinnati earlier in the month. FC Cincinnati announced it waived Miazga Sept. 14.
NYCFC and FC Cincinnati are tied in the MLS' Eastern Conference standings with 32 points each.
Miazga spent parts of five seasons with FC Cincinnati. He joined the club in August 2022.
Miazga, the 2023 MLS Defender of the Year, had been set to become a free agent at the end of the year.
Miazga's FC Cincinnati salary was $1.6 million. FC Cincinnati's decision to part ways with Miazga freed up cap space.
In July, Miazga was suspended for a match against San Jose after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season at Columbus.
Miazga suffered a knee injury
against San Jose in June 2024, sliding into the goalpost to block a shot. He underwent reconstructive surgery of his posterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
