Colerain Township police have arrested and charged a man after finding a 2-year-old who was not breathing.
Police charged 23-year-old Sabastian De La Cruz-Macal with two felonies, including endangering children and felonious assault in connection with the child's injuries.
De La Cruz-Macal admitted striking the child on the buttocks and leaving finger marks, while he was providing supervision and care for the child, according to Hamilton County Municipal Court records.
Colerain Township fire, police, and emergency medical technicians responded to a report of a child not breathing Aug. 2 at around 4:26 p.m., said a news release from police.
When officers arrived at the Roppelt Drive home, they found the child, who was taken to Cincinnati Children's
Hospital Medical Center with life-threating injuries. The child was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, court records state.
After an investigation on the scene, detectives determined that the child had multiple injuries consistent with physical abuse and arrested De La Cruz-Macal.
