The voice calling the plays in the Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks' ear pieces during the game against the Chicago Bears was Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher.
Following Cincinnati's 27-9 victory against the Bears at Paycor Stadium on Aug. 22, Bengals coach Zac Taylor confirmed Pitcher called the plays for the offense. The move marked a delegation of responsibility from Taylor to Pitcher as Taylor has been the primary play-caller since becoming Bengals head coach.
"'Pitch' did an excellent job. Called the game tonight, did an excellent job," Taylor said. "Great prep all week preparing for this (joint) practice. Calling the game. I thought he had a great feel for it, and did a good job putting the quarterbacks in great positions, getting
them in a good rhythm."
Quarterback Josh Johnson played the first half for Cincinnati while Sean Clifford took the third and fourth quarters for the hosts. The Bengals had 38 passing plays and 20 run plays.
They scored through the air three times. Johnson was 15-for-23 passing for 156 yards and Clifford was 10-for-15 for 126 yards.
