St. Louis Cardinals infielder JJ Wetherholt has been placed on the 10-day IL with right wrist tendinitis, the team announced Aug. 30.
Wetherholt is batting .242 with 17 homers, 48 RBIs and 14 stolen bases through 586 plate appearances this season. His WAR is 4.6.
MLB Network's Chris Young had a strong take Aug. 27
on "MLB Central" about Wetherholt and the Cincinnati Reds' Sal Stewart, considered the top two National League Rookie of the Year candidates."With the team aspect, I really don't bring that into account," Young said. "Rookie of the Year is a straight numbers award. It's always been. And it's an offensive award. … This should not be a close race. ... If I'm Sal, I'm expecting to win this award."
Stewart hit his 30th home run of the season
during the Reds' 17-5 loss to the Cubs in Chicago. He leads MLB with 104 RBIs.
