The Cincinnati Reds reported via Twitter/X one day after shortstop Elly De La Cruz's impressive throw to home plate to nab the Los Angeles Dodgers' Teoscar Hernández that the throw actually traveled 102 miles per hour.
Statcast had initially indicated that De La Cruz's relay to catcher Jose Trevino to keep Hernández from stretching a triple into what would've been an inside-the-park home run was clocked at 105.3 MPH, as play-by-play announcer John Sadak indicated during the broadcast.
Hernández said after the game that he thought De La Cruz was the only MLB player who could make that throw to get him out, and added that he thought he was going to be safe until he watched the replay later.
"That was one of the better throws you'll ever see. I mean
ever," Reds manager Terry Francona said in his postgame remarks.
