Summer vacation is over for students in the Shelby County suburb schools.
Germantown Municipal School District and Collierville Schools welcomed back students for the first day of school on Aug. 5.
Some students at Collierville Elementary arrived with their parents, who joined in on the excitement, while Collierville Fire Department Chief of EMS Joe Rape gave out fist bumps to each student who passed.
Collierville Schools Superintendent Dr. Russell Dryer has high hopes for the 2026-27 year for his suburb’s school system.
"We're excited about the year ahead," Dyer said. "Our focus remains on the priorities outlined in CS2030 and ensuring every student has the opportunities, support, and experiences they need to succeed. We have outstanding students,
dedicated employees, and a community that values education, and we're looking forward to another great year in Collierville Schools.”
The rest of the suburbs schools in Shelby County are set to begin. Arlington Community Schools, Bartlett Schools, Lakeland School System and Millington Municipal Schools all start on Aug. 6.
