The Memphis Grizzliesare waiving D'Angelo Russell, according to ESPN.
Memphis acquired Russell earlier this offseason in a July deal that sent forward Santi Aldama to the Dallas Mavericks.Russell, a guard entering his 11th season, has made on All-Star appearance and played for five teams.
Waiving Russell gives the Grizzlies more flexibility to make more moves. Memphis could use its third two-way slot or add a player to an exhibit-10 contract that will likely spend the season with the G League Memphis Hustle.
Memphis needed to make a move ahead of opening preseason training camp. NBA teams are allowed to carry up to 21 players under contract ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Grizzlies will have media day on Sept. 28 before heading to Nashville for preseason
training camp Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
Russell was in the final year of a two-year deal. He was set to earn more than $5.9 million this season.
