Memphis area games in Week 3 of the TSSAA football season reshaped the Super 15 rankings. Ahead of Week 4, the rankings feature a new team at the top and a program that was not listed last week climbing to No. 12.
Southwind remained undefeated with a nail-biter at Houston, and Christian Brothers made a statement with a blowout win over Lausanne.
Memphis area Super 15 football rankings for Week 4
1. Briarcrest
Classification: Division II-AA; Record: 3-0; Next game: vs. Father Ryan, Sept. 11.
Briarcrest traveled to Nashville and knocked off Ensworth 42-17. Ensworth was ranked No. 13 in last week’s Tennessee High School Football Super 25 rankings. The Saints’ Octavius Flynn ran 16 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Last week: No. 2

2. Southwind
Classification:
6A; Record: 3-0; Next game: vs. White Station, Sept. 11.
However it happened, coach Jerome Griffin and Southwind got the job done at Houston last week, winning 28-27. The Jaguars led by two touchdowns entering the fourth quarter, and Houston failed to convert a 2-point conversion attempt with 22 seconds remaining. Still, Southwind created several big plays behind Auburn commit Khamoni Williams at running back and quarterback Malcom Jack. Last week: No. 1
3. Munford
Classification: 5A; Record: 2-0; Next game: vs. Woodford County (Kentucky), Sept. 11.
Munford didn’t play in Week 3, so it remains No. 3 in the Super 15 rankings. It hosts a difficult matchup against a Yellowjackets program that is 3-0. Last week: No. 3
4. Whitehaven
Classification: 6A; Record: 2-1; Next game: at Germantown, Sept. 11.
Whitehaven took care of business against Fairley last week, winning 29-0. Since the season opened with a loss to Ensworth, the Tigers have kept their foot on the gas. Last week: No. 4
5. Christian Brothers
Classification: Division II-AAA; Record: 3-0; Next game: vs. MBA, Sept. 11.
Quarterback Nate Brick completed 13 of 16 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns as CBHS defeated Lausanne 48-21. Multiple receivers topped 100 yards, and the Purple Wave created big special teams plays. Chris Harris returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown, and Jalil Carpenter returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown. Last week: No.7
6. Collierville
Classification: 6A; Record: 1-2; Next game: at Madison-Ridgeland Academy (Mississippi), Sept. 11.
Collierville won its first game of the season last week, beating Horn Lake, Mississippi, 35-7. The Dragons will travel to Jackson to face Madison-Ridgeland Academy, the team ranked No. 5 in The Clarion-Ledger’s statewide rankings Aug. 31. Last week: No. 6
7. Houston
Classification: 6A; Record: 1-2; Next game: vs. Tupelo (Mississippi), Sept. 11.
Houston is unlucky to drop in this week’s rankings after playing well against Southwind on Sept. 4. Quarterback Canon Day completed 13 of 18 passes for 133 yards and ran for 102 yards on 11 carries, accounting for two touchdowns in the 28-27 loss. Last week: No. 6
8. Germantown
Classification: 6A; Record: 2-1; Next game: vs. Whitehaven, Sept. 11.
Germantown put up big numbers Sept. 4, beating Sheffield 65-0 at home. After opening the season with a loss to rival Houston, the Red Devils have gotten back on track before Whitehaven visits Sept. 11. Last week: No.8
9. Bartlett
Classification: 6A; Record: 2-1; Next game: vs. Memphis Overton. Sept. 11
Bartlett jumps to No. 9 after an impressive 28-12 win over Melrose on Sept. 4. It was a strong bounce-back win after losing at home to Germantown in Week 2. Last week: No. 10
10. Lake Cormorant (Mississippi)
Classification: 6A; Record: 2-0; Next game: vs. Columbus (Mississippi). Sept. 11
Lake Cormorant beat Mississippi rival DeSoto Central 14-7 in overtime to remain undefeated. Its next opponent, Columbus, is 0-2 to start the season. Last week: No. 9
11. Memphis Central
Classification: 5A; Record 3-0; Next game: vs PURE Academy Sept 11.
The Warriors moved up in this week’s rankings after their 35-7 victory on the road against White Station. Memphis Central has now outscored opponents 121-7 this season. Last week: No. 12
12. Lakeland Prep
Classification: 4A; Record 2-1; Next game: at Haywood Sept 11.
Lakeland Prep enters the Super 15 rankings after an impressive 35-8 win over Millington Central on Sept. 4. Quarterback Brett Goodwin headlined the standout performers, completing 20 of 25 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns. Last week: Not ranked.
13. Lausanne
Classification: Division II-AA; Record 0-2; Next game: at Germantown Sept. 17 (Thursday)
Lausanne won’t play in Week 4 after losing its first two games of the season. The Lynx’s schedule is noteworthy after opening the year with road games against Southwind and CBHS, and an extra week to prepare for Germantown could serve them well. Last week: No. 11
14. MUS
Classification: Division II-AAA; Record: 1-1; Next game: at Lipscomb Academy, Sept. 4.
The Owls handled business against Kirby on Sept. 3, defeating the Cougars 41-14. Hudson Rhodes made three solo tackles, including two for a loss, a sack and a 39-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Last week: No. 13
15. MASE
Classification: 2A; Record: 1-2; Next game: at Center Hill (Mississippi), Sept. 4.
MASE won its first game of the season Sept. 3 with a 40-0 victory over Trezevant. The win sets up an intriguing road game against Center Hill. Last week: No.14
