There won’t be a more difficult week for The Commercial Appeal to decide on the Memphis area TSSAA game of the week.
Week 5 featured another thrilling one with Houston beating Bartlett 38-35. The upcoming slate of games is perhaps the best yet this season.
Game of the Week
Southwind (5-0) at Briarcrest (5-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
This has the makings of a classic. Briarcrest will celebrate homecoming with a blockbuster matchup against Southwind. The host has scored 40 points or more in every game this season. The Jaguars also have had a phenomenal start. When the top two teams in the Memphis area clash, the winner is anyone’s call.
Ryan Myers’ prediction: Briarcrest 38, Southwind 30
Whitehaven (4-1) at Munford (4-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
It’s unfortunate
that fans will have to choose between Southwind at Briarcrest and this one. In almost any other week, this matchup between schools on the north and south sides of Memphis would be fantastic. Expect defense to reign supreme; both teams have allowed more than 25 points just once this season.
Myers’ prediction: Whitehaven 23, Munford 21
Germantown (2-3) at Memphis Central (5-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Central hosts Germantown for its homecoming game, which could prove costly as the Red Devils will be hungry for a win after losing consecutive games for the first time in 2026. Germantown struggled in a 42-13 loss to Lausanne but looked stout on defense in its 7-6 loss to Whitehaven. Central, on the other hand, has breezed to an undefeated start, outscoring opponents 212-32.
Myers’ prediction: Central 27, Germantown 18
Westview (5-0) at Lausanne (1-2)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Westview has impressed, knocking off programs such as MASE and AZ Compass Prep (Arizona). Lausanne is coming off its first win of the season at Germantown and will host its first home game of the year in this clash.
Myers’ prediction: Lausanne 21, Westview 20
Mitchell (3-2, 2-0 in Region 8-2A) at MASE (2-3, 2-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 24
This matchup between two Region 8-2A programs will help set the stage for the remainder of the region standings. Mitchell comes into the game after losing 18-12 to Northpoint Christian, while MASE knocked off Hillcrest 46-0 in Week 5.
Myers’ prediction: MASE 30, Mitchell 18
White Station (2-3) at MUS (2-3)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Memphis University School has a lot to play for in Week 6. After losing its first two games of region play, a break in the action to get back on track in a non-region matchup could be the boost it needs. White Station ended its three-game losing skid in Week 5, beating Cordova 21-7.
Myers’ prediction: MUS 35, White Station 23
Cordova (2-2, 0-0 in 7-6A) at Houston (2-3, 1-0)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Houston earned a 38-35 win over Bartlett in the Memphis-area Week 5 game of the week. The game was heavily decided on the ground, as quarterback Canon Day and running back Raderius Robertson couldn’t be stopped. The Mustangs host Cordova for their first region matchup of the season. The Wolves enter the game on a two-game losing streak.
Myers’ prediction: Houston 45, Cordova 13
Collierville (2-3, 1-0 in 7-6A) at Bartlett (3-2, 0-1)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Bartlett narrowly lost to Houston in Week 5, so a home meeting with Collierville could serve as a momentum booster if coach Ben Bowden’s team can earn a win. The Dragons are a tall task, however, and they showed Arlington how fierce they can be in a 55-7 Week 5 win.
Myers’ prediction: Collierville 27, Bartlett 21 (OT)
Trezevant (2-3, 0-2 in 8-2A) at Hillcrest (3-2, 0-2)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 24
This region matchup will be a fun Thursday night showdown between two programs looking to earn their first wins in region 8-2A. Hillcrest lost 46-0 to MASE, and Trezevant has lost three straight games.
Myers’ prediction: Hillcrest 27, Trezevant 12
Memphis Overton (3-2) at Wooddale (3-2)
When: 7 p.m. | Sept. 25
Overton’s latest Week 5 victory saw it shoot up to No. 12 in the latest Memphis-area Super 15 rankings. Before Overton begins region play, there is another non-region meeting with Wooddale. Wooddale split its first two region games, beating Memphis East 30-0 before losing 44-0 to Melrose in Week 5.
Myers’ prediction: Overton 37, Wooddale 13
