The newest generation of iPhones will be available for pre-order and will hit stores within the next week.
During Apple's annual tech event, the company announced release dates forits latest devices. The event, held at its Cupertino, California, headquarters on Sept. 9, was entitled "Surprise and Shine" and included the new iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone.
While hosting his first major Apple event, CEO John Ternus, who took over Sept. 1 from longtime CEO Tim Cook, stressed that the company's design prowess would help the iPhone Duo win over consumers.
At the event, Apple also frequently mentioned AI, but its Siri AI, the newest iOS feature, will remain in beta beyond the release of iOS 27, which arrives Sept. 14.

What new iPhones did Apple unveil at the event?
During the event, Apple dropped three new iPhone models, two new Apple Watch models and the newest generation of AirPods.
iPhone Duo
The star of the event was Apple's new foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. The device has a 5.4-inch outer display and, when opened, reveals a 7.6-inch inner display, making it the largest iPhone screen to date. The iPhone Duo will be available in different memory capacities from 256 GB to 2 terabytes. It will initially be available in two colors: Star White and Night Sky.
The iPhone Duo features a dual-camera system. Like the iPhone 17, both the ultra-wide and main rear cameras are 48 megapixels. The camera features "zero-shutter lag," supports 4K 120fps video and captures time-lapse videos in 4K and Dolby Vision HDR.
The Duo uses the new A20 Pro chip, which performs quickly, especially when running AI-powered features. The device has two built-in batteries, which together deliver all-day battery life.
Preorders begin on Oct. 16, and the device hits stores a week later, on Oct. 23. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, with storage capacities ranging from 256 GB to 2 TB.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
Along with the Duo, Apple released details on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max smartphones.
The iPhone 18 Pro, with a 6.3-inch display, will start at $1,199 for the 256 GB model; the Pro Max, with a 6.9-inch display, will start at $1,299 for the 256 GB model. Colors include Black, Burgundy, Glacier and Silver.
The new iPhone 18 Pro models are powered by a new A20 Pro smartphone processing chip, designed to handle increased use of artificial intelligence across iPhone apps. The iPhone 18 Pro models also promise longer battery life: 36 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro and 45 hours for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro's new 48-megapixel Fusion main camera has a physical aperture made of six laser-cut blades thinner than a human hair, Apple said. The aperture adjusts automatically between well-lit and night mode images.
The new phones will be available for pre-order Sept. 12 and will hit stores Sept. 18.
