Memphis football's Oct. 31 game against Army will kick off at 7 p.m., the schools announced Oct. 19.
It will be televised on ESPNU.
The matchup will be Memphis and Army's first meeting as American Conference foes. The Tigers and Black Knights have met five teams (Memphis has a 4-1 advantage in the series) but the last game was in 2002.
Both teams are conference title hopefuls. Memphis (5-2, 2-1 American Conference) is coming off a loss to Tulane and will host East Carolina on Oct. 22 (6:30 p.m., ESPN2). Army (4-2, 3-1) beat FAU 56-24 on Oct. 17 and will play at Tulsa on Oct. 23.
The game will be a major clash of styles. Memphis runs one of the fastest offenses in the country, while Army is known for its ball-control offense that leans almost exclusively
on the triple option. In the blowout win over the Owls, the Black Knights attempted only two passes.
Both teams have one conference loss and are in the mix for the American title race if they keep winning. The loser will face an uphill battle to get there.
