Memphis-Shelby County Schools has essentially kept the same iteration of its cell phone policy since 2013.
According to the MSCS cell phone policy, all students are banned from possessing "any type of phone or personal communication device" that is turned on or in visible or audible use at any time during the school day, conforming with state policies.
Students cannot keep a phone on their person, in a bag or anywhere else on school property other than storage locations approved by the school.
Students who want to carry a phone to and from school must keep the device turned off and stored in a locker, car or another school-approved location unless otherwise determined by the school's principal.
The district allows security officials to search any
cell phone brought onto school property, which includes the parking lot.
More information about the district's cell phone policy can be found online.
