Life is better in Country Haven than it was a few years ago, when the Nesbit mobile home park had a problem with drugs. "We made it a place where people were safe again," said Buddy Brockelbank, who moved into Country Haven as part of a new management team three years ago. He said new management evicted dozens of tenants and got "three or four drug houses" busted. "We didn't run any concentration camp, but wanted people to feel safe," said Brockelbank, who's now a resident of the 320-home park on the east side of US. 51 between Nesbit and Hernando.

Hi Rhythm, the studio band over at Willie Mitchell's Royal Recording Studio, is one of those groups that the public doesn't hear about too much, but within the music
world, its playing behind Hi Records artists like Al Green, Ann Peebles and Syl Johnson is much respected and always given big credits when the success of those artists is being discussed. . .And so when word got around that the band was in the studio cutting its own album, there was some wondering about the direction the music on it would take. What the band came up with is On the Loose (Hi), a record that doesn't sound like anybody else's music, one that is not particularly a soul album, nor pop, nor rock.

Coca-Cola parlayed a big first inning into its first American Legion Junior baseball championship yesterday, scoring all its runs in the opening frame to blast Corbitt Motors, 8-0, at Bellevue Park. The playoff game was necessitated when both teams finished the regular season with identical 8-2 won-lost records.
100 years ago — 1926
The honor of originating an entirely new plan of popularizing the "Better Homes in America" movement by means of an unique contest, goes to a Memphis woman, Mrs. L.E. Turner, president of the Woman's Evergreen Civil Club, local chairman of the National "Better Homes" campaign, and chairman of the Tri-State Fair Better Homes committee. Mrs. Turner's plan has met with enthusiastic approval of the Woman's board of the Tri-State Fair of which she is a member.
