What's your favorite Elvis movie? We want to know.
Voting is now open in The Commercial Appeal's first "What Is Your Favorite Elvis Movie?" poll.
All 31 of the movies in which Elvis starred as an actor, from 1956 to 1969, are eligible.
We're talking about Elvis-as-movie-star movies, not documentaries or concert films or biopics or posthumous releases. We're talking about what people mean when they say "Elvis movie." We want to know: Which one is your favorite?
Is it his 1956 debut, "Love Me Tender," in which the untested young movie star is billed third, behind Richard Egan and Debra Paget?
Is it the colorful hit "Blue Hawaii" (1960), which established the template
for Elvis travelogues?
Is it "Viva Las Vegas," from 1964, in which he meets his match in Ann-Margret? That same year's two-for-the-price-of-one "Kissin' Cousins," which cast Elvis as twins?
"Easy Come, Easy Go" (1967), in which Elvis is a lounge singer by night, Navy frogman by day?
Or is it 1957's "Jailhouse Rock"? That's the one in which Elvis tells a young woman who complains about the roughhouse "tactics" he employs to steal a kiss: "That ain't tactics, honey. It's just the beast in me."
Michael Curtiz, the director of "Casablanca," directed Elvis in "King Creole" (1958), photographed in noirish black-and-white. But maybe you prefer the more colorful and goofier Elvis who sang "(There's) No Room to Rhumba in a Sports Car" in "Fun in Acapulco" (1963).
Whatever you preference, you've now got your chance to do like Elvis did and make your voice heard. Voting remains open until noon Friday, Aug. 7. The winner will be announced on Monday, Aug. 10.
