Belmont Grill is closing after 42 years in East Memphis.
The restaurant at 4970 Poplar Ave. became city-famous thanks to its food, consistency, iconic location (Poplar and Mendenhall), decades-long regular patrons and Christmas lights hung in the small yet cozy dining hall and bar all year long.
Jeff Anderson has been with Belmont Grill from the beginning. He started out as a bartender and became owner in 1986. "The property has been sold to a commercial real estate investment," he told The Commercial Appeal on Aug. 17. "Our last day is Aug. 29."
Anderson said he wanted the restaurant's customers to know how much he appreciates their support. "42 years
is a long time," he said.
Among the restaurant's beloved menu items are the Belmont burger, served on a French loaf, hearty steak sandwiches, piping hot po'boys, super savory potato skins and the best club sandwich in Memphis.
