Jeremy Biggs will retain his seat on the Arlington Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
In the only contested alderman race on the ballot in the Aug. 6 primary and municipal election, Biggs — the Position 6 incumbent — defeated challenger Donald Hinkle. Biggs registered 1,721 votes, or 73.11% of the vote, while Hinkle earned 630 votes, or 26.76% of the vote. Biggs told the Commercial Appeal he was pleased he was able to gain the backing of the people of Arlington, while also acknowledging Hinkle's "clean race."
"I'm very happy the citizens of Arlington recognize the work I've done for the community and support my vison for Arlington's future," Biggs said. "I also want to say I'm very appreciative that my opponent ran a clean race. Its says a lot about
his character."
Biggs was first elected as alderman on the Position 6 seat in September 2017 and was re-elected in August 2022. Biggs also serves on the suburb's planning commission. He also served two years on the Arlington Design and Review Committee and was an active member of the Arlington Parks and Recreation Committee for six years. Since March 2011, Biggs has worked the past 15 years as senior risk management consultant for Amerisure Insurance in Memphis, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Hinkle also has experience in the Town of Arlington, spending the last 15 years serving on the planning commission, industrial development board, finance committee and board of zoning appeals. He serves as chairman on the industrial development board. Since August 2013, Hinkle served as the financial professional at Prudential Financial in Germantown for 13 years, according to Hinkle’s LinkedIn profile.
Other alderman races
Arlington residents also voted for two other unopposed aldermen races on the ballot. Incumbent aldermen Oscar Brooks tallied 2,078 votes or 98.48% of the vote for Position 4, while incumbent Harry McKee had 2,127 votes or 98.02% of the vote.
Brooks has been on the suburb’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen since he was elected to his first term as alderman in the 2003 municipal election. Brooks was re-elected in August 2022. McKee, who also served as vice mayor, has served on the board since his first term as alderman in the 2005 municipal election. He was also re-elected in August 2022.
All three races on the ballot for the Aug. 6 primary and municipal election involved nonpartisans seats on the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
